The biggest upset on the first day of the NZ International 7s tournament was recorded in the last hour when hosts and defending champions, New Zealand went down to Wales by 28-17.

This is Wales first ever win against New Zealand in the 7s game.

New Zealand suffered a huge blow after Fijian, Tomasi Cama Junior was handed a red card in the first few minutes of the game and will now miss the next match against Niue. Captain DJ Forbes got a yellow card and sat out for two minutes.
