Waisale Serevi Sacked
Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, FRU Board Chairman Keni Dakuidreketi revealed that the rugby board met last night and resolved to terminate the services of Waisale Serevi.
Fijivillage received confirmation that Serevi was told just after 3pm today that he is no longer coach of the National 7s team.
Serevi was at the Nasova Police Academy with the Digicel Fiji 7s team ready to start training this afternoon when he was visited by FRU officials.
We spoke to Serevi and he confirmed that he has been told by FRU officials that he has been sacked and the 7s wizard was on his way home.
Earlier today, the Fiji Rugby Union Chairman came out publicly and said that it has been very difficult working with Serevi since November last year.
Following the revelation by the Serevi that he is finding great difficulty in working with FRU officials since he took over the post, Dakuidreketi said he is concerned that a lot of stories are being twisted by the coach.
The FRU Chairman has even said that anyone who does not want to adhere to the rules set by the FRU, then the door is open for the person to leave.
With the Wellington 7s kicking off next Friday and the World Cup 7s in Dubai just a month away, Serevi had come out and said that he did not have much say in the selection of the Fiji team to the Wellington and San Diego 7s.
But Dakuidreketi stressed that people should not get emotional and make personal attacks.
Waisale Serevi is now at his home and will speak to us later.
