Waisale Serevi Resigns As National 7s Coach
Serevi announced his decision today after meeting with Fiji Rugby Union chief executive Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua and the Games Committee but did not give any specific reason for stepping down.
Speaking to Village Sports just after the meeting, the man dubbed as the wizard in the 7s rugby code said that after 19 years as a player and coach for the last two years, he has decided to move ahead in life.
Serevi who guided the Fiji 7s team to many victories said the allegations leveled against him during the last leg of the IRB 7s Series are lies and that has been sorted out by FRU.
Serevi who is likely to take up a coaching contract overseas, said it does not rule him out from coming back to help the Fiji 7s team defend the Melrose Cup title in 2009.
Village Sports understands that Serevi is planning to take up a coaching contract in South Africa.
