Former flying Fijians and Namosi coach Timoci Wainiqolo will take the national 7s team to Australia for the Gold Coast sevens next month.

This is after former assistant coach Etuate Waqa took up a sevens contract in Tonga and coach Alifereti Dere cannot travel with the team due to travel restrictions.

Wainiqolo guided Namosi to a 43-6 thrashing of Rewa last week in the promotion relegation match, said he is honored to take the team.

Wainiqolo who is best remembered by fans as the player who scored the winning try in the 1991 Hong Kong sevens final against New Zealand adds it will be a mammoth task for him but he needs time.
