In the Central Division, Provincial Officer Rewa Luke Maraivalu confirms that the Waimanu river has burst its banks in very low lying areas along the river banks, while water levels in other rivers and creeks in the area are also rising.
Maraivalu confirms that several areas in Korovou and Tailevu are under floodwaters and people have been advised to move to higher ground.
From the Rewa delta, about four villages have been evacuated due to rising water levels in the Rewa river and DISMAC is urging people to remain on full alert as the rising water levels in the smaller rivers and creeks in the Rewa area is expected to cause flash flooding this morning.
Meanwhile, He said DISMAC has also received confirmation that two homes burnt down this morning in Nakelo and Nadera.
The occupants of the two homes are safe and staying at their neighbor’s homes.
