Road upgrade works on seven roads in the Wailada industrial area are progressing ahead of schedule.

The road works which were contracted out to New Zealand Company, Highway Stabilizers was to see the construction of seven new roads costing around $1.5 million and was expected to finish by the end of this month.

Project officer, Greg Bailey said they are waiting for clear weather and are expected to complete the sealing today which is the final work before the road is opened.

The project was a pilot where the Center Co ordinating Agency for Roads (CCAR) would see how the work was done before turning to outsourcing the maintenance of over five thousand kilometers of municipal roads nation wide.

Local Government Minister Colonel Samuela Saumatua while launching the project earlier this year, said CCAR will focus on the other 13 municipalities around the country however this will only be made possible if ratepayers pay up on time.
