Wage Increase For 9 Industries
Council Chairman, Father Kevin Barr confirms with the nine industries already approved for wage increments, work on three other industries is expected to begin soon.
From the beginning of next year, a total of nine industries have been consulted for the increase in wage rates offered to its employees.
Looking at the various industries, the printing industry wage rate has been increased from $1.70 to $2.20 an hour for learners and from $2.12 to $2.65 an hour for others. This is an increase of 50 cents.
The security industry has received an increase of 30 cents where the new wage rate will start at $2.00 an hour.
The Building, Civil, and Electrical Engineering industry has received 40 to 50 cents increase in their hourly rate.
The manufacturing industry received a 50 cents increase and the new wage rate will start at $2.50 an hour. The Hotel and Catering industry has received 35 cents across the board increase. The industry consists of Barmen, Clerks, Cooks, Waiters, Watchmen, Night attendants, Laundry hands, Kitchen hands, House workers and General workers.
The garment industry has received a 20% pay rise. Learners in the industry will now start receiving $1.50 an hour while others hourly rate will start at $1.78. The old wage rate was $1.48.
The road transport industry has received a 5% across the board increase. The wholesale and retail industry has also received a 20% increase and the new wage rate will be increased by 30 to 40 cents. People working in the industry include Cashiers, clerks, salesmen, sewing machinists, store men, unskilled workers, watchmen and other workers.
Workers in the saw milling industry also received a 40 to 50 cents increase in the hourly wage rate.
