The turtle ban on the harvesting of turtles being extended is a great help to its protection.
This is the message from the WWF South Pacific Marine Species Officer Merewalesi Laveti who said the extension shows Fiji's commitment to the protection of marine turtles.
This was passed by Cabinet late last year.
Laveti said the ten year ban will definitely promote the conservation of turtles adding this is when they will continue to create and advocate the protection of turtles as its numbers are decreasing.
The turtle ban will last until 2018.
