WHO raise alert of Swine Flu to level 5
Level 5 alert means human to human transmission in at least two countries.
The alert comes after a 23month old Mexican child died in Texas the first death from swine flu outside Mexico where the outbreak orginated.
So far, suspected deaths from the swine flu in Mexico, 159 and in the US, 1 and at least 91 confirmed cases and in Canada 13 confirmed cases, in the UK, 5, Spain 10, Germany and New Zealand both have 3, Israel has 2 and Austria 1.
Meanwhile, World Health Organisation representative in Fiji, Dr Jacob Kool said that with Fiji being the gateway to the Pacific and getting flights from infected countries, it is hard not to rule out the possibility of Swine Flu entering Fiji.
Director Public Health, Dr Greg Rafai said that Fiji has in place a state of the art labarotary at Mataika House in Tamavua and has a stock load of anti-virals that will assist in the country's readiness for the virus. Specialists teams have been mobilised to various ports of entries with screening of planes entering the country have been initiated.
