WHO predicts another wave of Influenza A H1N1 pandemic
And to minimize the spread of the Influenza A H1N1 pandemic in Fiji, the WHO and Aus Aid today donated 88,000 doses of the Panvax Vaccine to the Ministry of Health.
Deputy Director Public Health Services Dr. Joe Koroivueta they are now preparing for another wave to strike and they will be ready.
Dr. Koroivueta said the vaccine will be administered first to protect all health care and support staff to ensure there is no disruption to health services in Fiji including all women who are pregnant, in any trimester during 2010, will also be offered a dose of the vaccine.
Dr.Koroivueta said so far this year there has been over 700 cases of influenza like cases and they are closely monitoring the situation.
WHO Representative in the South Pacific Dr. Chen Ken told Fijivillage news that the Panvax vaccine has been field tested and is now in use in several developed countries including Australia, New Zealand and the US.
Dr. Ken said the vaccine is safe and approved by the WHO.
