The World Health Organization has congratulated Fiji for being one of the first countries to sign and ratify the framework convention to take control in developing and endorsing the multi-sectoral Non Communicable Disease Strategic Plan and the consistent allocation of government budget and resources.

WHO Representative Dr Corrie Capuano says Fiji's strategic plan is one of the best in NCD prevention and control.

Yesterday the Health Ministry launched their strategic plan called the 5:30 NCD campaign.

Under the new campaign, the number 5 stands for the five serving of fruits with 30, standing for the 30 minutes daily workout, as interim Minister Doctor Jiko Luveni added that these types of deaths are preventable if these guidelines are followed.

According to the Ministry, the prevalence of Diabetes, a common NCD, for the population of 15-64 year olds in Fiji is 16% with an average of 500 new cases every year.
