The Vugalei bridge along Kings Road in Tailevu will be closed to all vehicles from 6 this evening to 4am Monday.

This is to accommodate emergency bridge deck repairs by Fiji Roads Authority engineers.

FRA chief executive officer John Hutchinson said they will be monitoring the situation and will only allow emergency services such as ambulance, fire trucks and police to pass through.

Only a pedestrian crossing will be available.

He said following discussions with their consultants and contractors, they will re‑open the bridge at 4am on Monday with a weight limit of 14 tonnes and a speed restriction of 10km/h.

The Fiji Roads Authority said they will repair the damaged concrete bridge deck to help prolong the life of the bridge.

The Vugalei bridge had also been reduced to a single lane earlier in the week.
