Vunisea Secondary School sprinter Ilaitia Vueti is a contender for the Senior Boys 100 metres title in this year's Coca Cola Games.

The 19 year old clocked a manual time of 11.02 seconds in the 100 metres in the Kadavu Zone meet. 

He is hoping to improve his time at the ANZ Stadium and create history for his school.

Vueti's humble upbringing has encouraged him to try and give something back to his hardworking parents back in the village.

Vueti said he will also carry the hopes of all the schools in the outer islands this year.


Vueti will face competition from Vilisoni Rarasea from Marist Brothers High School, Samisoni Bai from Sila Central College and Leone Natusa from Queen Victoria School.

Meanwhile Vunisea Secondary School principal Silivio Vueti said the visit of the torch relay team to Kadavu has brought the spirit of the Coca Cola Games to the people of Kadavu and their 22 athletes.


Over 500 people including students from Namalata Primary School, Vunisea Secondary School and members of the Vunisea Government quarter’s community got to witness the Coca Cola Games torch relay that visited Kadavu for the first time today.

The Coca Cola Games will be held on the 25th and 26th of this month.
