The abuse of office case against Air Fiji CEO Sialeni Vuetaki has been adjourned till late May after FICAC informed the Magistrates Court this morning of difficulties in bringing the remaining witnesses to court.

When the case was called for continuation this morning, FICAC lawyer Paul Madigan informed the court that two witnesses are abroad while one witness is reluctant to come and give evidence in court.

Defense council Devinesh Sharma strongly objected and stressed that the charges are hanging over his clients head and they must proceed and that reluctant witnesses can be bench warranted to appear.

After suggestions by Magistrate Amani Rokotinaviti for a final adjournment, the two parties agreed to adjourn the matter till May 27th for the completion of the trial.

It is alleged that Vuetaki, who was then chairman of Ports Terminal Limited, on the 7th and 13th of December 2006, approved the payment of $177,000 to the then CEO of Ports Terminal Limited without the prior approval of the Board.
