The inclusion of Watisoni Votu to replace James Brown in the Digicel Fiji Sevens forward pack was the call made by coach Iliesa Tanivula after reviewing his side’s performance in the Hong Kong and Australia Sevens.
Brown was the only player to be dropped from the 12 member team that went to Hong Kong when the 15 member squad for the London and Scotland Sevens was named today.
Fiji Rugby Union coaching director Ilivasi Tabua said that Tanivula feels that Votu is capable of playing both in the forwards and in the backline.
Also the inclusion of Nadroga first five-eighth Jiuta Lutumailagi is to handle the playmakers position.
Selector Mosese Taga said this is a crucial position where they need a specialist.
The 15-players selected are: In the forwards Seremia Burotu, Pio Tuwai, Suli Ramasima, Apisai Nayabo, Watison Votu, Jolame Bera, Waqabaca Kotobalavu while the backs includes Niumaia Cakacaka, Osea Kolinisau, Vereniki Goneva, Nasoni Roko, Orisi Sareki, Emosi Vucago, Peni Rokodiva and Jiuta Lutumailagi.
The squad will be trimmed to 12 next week.
The Digicel Sevens team players march into camp on Sunday and will train in Nadi.
The England 7s tournament will be held on the 23rd and 24th of this month in London, followed by the Scotland 7s tournament a week later in Edinburgh.
