Suva Lord Mayor, Ratu Peni Volavola said he has explained his reasons for taking the mayoral vehicle to Macuata for the Methodist Church conference.
Volavola said he took the vehicle because of his wife's health and he also had the council's approval. He added that he chose to pay for the fuel costs.
Meanwhile Interim Local Government Minister Jone Navakamocea said he has asked for an explanation and verification from the Mayor and Town Clerk whether an approval to take the vehicle to the conference was given through a council meeting.
Navakamocea said if the Lord Mayor was invited to the conference in his capacity as the Church Vice President he should have requested the Methodist Church to provide a vehicle for him.
