Vodafone Fiji expects to incur over $3 million in costs to ensure all its customers are registered as per the requirement of the Telephone Services decree.
Manager Corporate Affairs Shailendra Prasad said they expect the costs to increase after the extension of the deadline for registrations.
Attorney General and Minister for Communication Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum confirmed to Fijivillage that the government has extended the deadline for registration of land line and mobile phones for another 30 days under the Telephone Services decree.
The registration period ended on Saturday, however, Sayed-Khaiyum confirms that following a request from mobile phone operators Vodafone and Digicel, they have decided to extend the registration period until September 22nd.
Sayed-Khaiyum said there will be no further extensions when the current deadline ends in 30 days.
Telecom Fiji Group Manager Marketing Vanessa Kilner said they will comment after consulting with the legal team while Digicel is yet to comment on the matter.
