Fiji's representative in Geneva, Peceli Vocea has told the United Nations Conference on Human rights that the government's efforts to restore the Fiji Human Rights commission is being hindered by the travel sanctions imposed by our neighbours.
While addressing the delegates at the meeting, Vocea reiterated to the international community for support if they want to see Fiji progress.
Vocea, while stressing that the government will soon remove the Public Emergency regulation, security assessments indicate the need for it to remain in place for now.
Meanwhile President of the UN Human Rights Council Alex Van Meeuwen lashed out at remarks made by representatives from Australia and New Zealand on the situation in Fiji. He told them not to refer to Fiji as a regime as it is disrespectful.
The UN conference ends on February 19th.
