After experiencing one of the worst years since its establishment some 50 years ago, one of the small resort operators on the coral coast, the Sandy Beach Cottages is confident that things are now improving in terms of visitor numbers.
Resort owner Bob Keneddy said they had to cut back on staff numbers and pay due to low occupancy levels over the last six months, however things are now getting back to normal.
Keneddy believes that visitor numbers could still be affected due to the influenza A H1N1 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Tourism Fiji Chairman Patrick Wong said the tourism industry should see an increase in visitor numbers from its traditional months of June to October where 50% of the years total is accounted for during the first 5 months of the year.
