Viria village in Naitasiri is being evacuated as all the women and children have been moved to the nearby settlement while the men remain in the village.
Turaga-Ni-Koro of Viria Waisea Nacou said that the water level continues to rise and the flood waters are flowing into the village and most of the houses, the vegetation and the root crops have been totally destroyed.
Nacou added that there is no food left in their vegetation as it is underwater and if the water level continues to rise, Viria village could be totally submerged in water in the next few hours.
