A 39 year old man charged with robbery with violence and unlawful use of motor vehicle was this morning sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the Suva High Court.

The court heard that on 14th June 2008, Raymond Johnson and his accomplice entered the house of the complainant with a knife and pinch bar and threatened the family and demanded money.

They stole cash and other items and fled in the complainant's vehicle that was later found abandoned.

Suva High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar while sentencing Johnson said home invasion is a serious offence and people in this country live in homes like prison with iron grills and padlocks on the windows and doors but they still get invaded by offenders.

Judge Goundar also noted that Johnson had a long list of previous convictions in Fiji and Australia since 1990.

Johnson was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with a non parole period of seven year's.
