“I cringe every time there is a report about violence against women and children.”
That’s the statement made by Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho while speaking during the opening of the workshop on gender violence against women and human rights.
Qiliho said this is a very serious issue that his officers tackle every day.
He said they try to come up with preventive measures, and workshops like this provide better ideas and understanding on the issue.
Meanwhile, Fiji Women’s Crisis Center Coordinator Shamima Ali said the workshop will also help officers increase their skills and sensitivity in responding appropriately to female victims reporting gender-based violence.
20 senior officers are attending the week long workshop which is being facilitated by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre and UNDP.
