Villages of Navaga in Koro have found a market in New Zealand to export their by-products of coconut, that is, virgin oil, body lotion, soaps and sinew or magimagi.
Soqosoqo Vakamarama rep Elenoa Ralulu said this idea started off with coconut by-product training for at least two people from each village, adding the project is now a success and is allowing people to get an income from resources available in their village.
However, Ralulu earlier said a major obstacle facing these people is transportation regarding shipping services, with ships only arriving in Koro once a month.
She said if the ship breaks down, there sometimes are no alternative modes of transportation to get their by-products to the final marketing destinations.
