Villages feel brunt of Cyclone Mick
Viwa village Turaga ni Koro, Pauliasi Tunisau said though there are no major damage to homes, only a few kitchens have been destroyed and some breadfruit trees have been uprooted due to the strong winds.
Tunisau added the wind is very strong and visibility is poor.
Reports from the Mamanucas said winds picked up strength 20 minutes ago adding they have been experiencing occasional downpour.
People started putting up their shutters from this morning.
Malolo Island Resort said their guests have been taken to shaded areas and told to stay indoors in light of weather conditions.
All villagers near the sea in Bua have moved to higher ground.
Pio Sioweli, from Vuya Villager, Bua said that the Turaga-ni-koro in Vuya called for all the villagers to move to higher ground last night and close to 70 families have moved into their village hall which is on high ground.
Sioweli said that they have started stocking up on their root crops and are ready for the any further heavy rain and strong winds.
He added that at the moment they are experiencing heavy rain and their coastal areas are flooded.
Meanwhile, Solevu Village located along the coast in Bua has been evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Strong wind and rain is currently being experienced by residents in Labasa.
Subramani Achari, a cane farmer in Tabia, Labasa said that the rain and wind has seen many people in his Naqele settlement opt to stay indoors.
However, Achari said that they have not seen any damage so far.
He added that they have brought in all their livestock and have put their hurricane shutters up.
Rakash Chand of Lovu, Lautoka said they are currently experiencing very strong winds and heavy rain adding it is highly likely to start flooding real soon.
Police Media Officer West Wame Boutolu confirmed the Korotale and Rewasa bridges in Rakiraki are under four feet of water and closed to all traffic.
Boutolu said all other areas in the Western Division are experiencing heavy rain and strong winds adding the Kings and Queens Road remain open for traffic.
He reminds people to take heed of the warnings.
