The villagers in Delailasakau, Naitasiri are without food right now as most of their dalo and cassava plantations have been completely destroyed in the floods during Tropical Cyclone Mick.

Village headman, Ratu Lino Taukeinikoro said with Christmas round the corner, the villagers were relying on their plantation for money to buy groceries, school books for their children and other necessities, and all that has now been destroyed.

Taukeinikoro adds what the villagers are doing right now is clearing the debris left behind by the floods and the young men have gone into the forest to see what food they may have left, mainly "tivoli", a yam species, for food.

The village of Delailasakau also relies on their banana plantation which has also been destroyed.
