Villagers left without food/water
Speaking to Village news via radio telephone the Turaga ni Koro of Nalele Village on Cikobia, Uliasi Voli said they are without clean drinking water and are preparing rice and tea for dinner. He said they are trying to salvage tinned food from the village shop which has been damaged.
DISMAC National Operations Centers Viliame Tuimuna confirms that the only school on the island suffered extensive damages as well.
He also revealed that a planned aerial survey using a helicopter, which was to be conducted along with the Interim Minister for Provincial Development Ratu Epeli Ganilau had to be cancelled due to bad weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the Interim Minister for Provincial Development confirms that food rations are now on its way to the people on Cikobia Island who have been badly affected by Hurricane Daman.
Speaking to Village News, Interim Minister, Ratu Epeli Ganilau confirms that initial reports provided to him shows that cost of damage is huge and his officials are still compiling their reports.
He said those in need will be provided with emergency food rations. A government vessel carrying emergency food and water and Government Officials has left for Cikobia and is expected to arrive early tomorrow morning.
