Villagers from Tikina of Lekutu raise funds
Speaking to Fijivillage news, Lekutu District School Project co-ordinator, Tevita Raiova said this drive is aimed to stop all fundraising drives, being held within the school annually.
Raiova added that the system is such that there are cooking groups formed at the school, and each parent spends over $1 thousand dollars in fares, in the six weeks that they come to school to cook the students food, and most travel for more than 10 kilometres to get to school.
Another major problem Raiova states is the provision of safe water supply to the students, as over the years, they have been prone to diseases like Dengue and Typhoid, so this project also includes the provision of water tanks for safe water supply.
Raiova adds that the classrooms in the area have been there for some time and they are prepared to make new classrooms to cater for the students.
The project committee is aiming to collect over $40,000 from a run-a-thon, all for the purpose of renewing the facilities at the school, to allow for healthy and better education facilities for their students.
