The villagers of Navolau in Naitasiri are raring to see their village "light-up" tonight after the commissioning of the power supply station in the village today.

Fijivillage spoke to Penitati Dawaqa of Navolau village, and he recalled 30 years ago when they first had their village fundraising in trying to get electricity.

Dawaqa said it has been very hard for parents to send their children to urban schools for higher education, as it has been very expensive for them.

However, now it is a lot easier with electricity, students can still attend Lomaivuna High School, as the school now has introduced computers and vocational training for students and things will be a lot easier also for the parents.

Dawaqa also relayed his experiences, and thinks back of the days when his daughter went to school at Navolau Primary School, and she had to study at night using a kerosene lantern.

He said the story was the same for all the villagers and they are now waiting the first nightfall with proper electricity supply.
