Villagers in the Vunidawa area, namely Vuisiga, Nakorovatu, Nairukuruku and Naqara are facing difficulties in crossing the Vunidawa bridge, which is their main link of travel to Suva, as a big part of the bridge has been washed away by the recent flood.

Sailasa Joji, a villager from Nairukuruku said due to the damage, buses from Suva are not travelling to their villages, and when they travel down, they have to carry their cargo across the damaged bridge, to get to the other side, and wait there for transport.

Joji adds in their will to survive, the villagers have to do this, as alot of work is needed to repair the bridge, and in the meantime, they have to work things out themselves.

The Vunidawa Hospital which is located just after the bridge is operating as normal, however, the hospital is still facing power cuts and the sick villagers from Naluwai, Nabaitavo and Serea, to name a few, who visit the hospital are left with no choice but to walk to the hospital.

The Public Works Department is trying to fix the broken bridge.
