More than 1,000 people from 50 households in the village of Waicoka in Tailevu have benefitted from the rural electrification assistance from the government, and had electricity for the first time last night.

This means that the villagers no longer have to rely on generators and buying diesel for their daily power needs.

The request for electricity came from the villagers after the road to the village was opened by Colonel Timoci Natuva last year.

Yesterday Colonel Natuva returned to light upo t he village after the project was completed.

Works Ministry spokesperson, Sainiana Waqainabete said the government is confident that the provision of electricity will improve the villager’s living standard.
