Villagers living in the highlands of Naitasiri solely depend on the sale of their root crops to pay for the bills, and these have been greatly affected in the recent floods.

When contacted by Fijivillage, Naqali villager Meiva Lukivovo said all the root crops due for harvest were badly affected by the flood, and a year's hard work has gone to waste.

Likuvono added that flooding in Naqali is a common sight every time there is heavy rain and she has called on the relevant authorities to at least dredge the Naqali river as this could have an effect on logging further inland.

Likuvono also stressed that government should act quickly and come to the rescue.
