Vodafone Fiji 7s forward Viliame Mata never lost sight of his father's advice.
The 23 year old made his debut this year in Wellington after coming in as a late replacement for Pio Tuwai and was dropped later for the Japan and Hong Kong tournaments but says his father who is in Iraq for peacekeeping duties told him not to give up.
Last week Ben Ryan named the former Assemblies of God Primary and Suva Grammar School student in the national side for the Scotland and England 7s.
The Scotland 7s kicks off this Saturday with the Vodafone Fiji 7s team playing Argentina at 9:30pm in their first pool match before taking on Kenya at 12:36am and Wales at 3:47am Sunday.
The quarter finals will be held at 10:58pm Sunday, semi finals at 2:58am Monday and the cup final at 5:50am Monday.
