Victory for Samoa
It was sweet victory for the Lolo Lui captained side after missing out in the final of the New Zealand 7s losing to Fiji.
Samoa started well and led 14-7 at half-time.
In the second half Samoa again started strongly with a try under the post for a 21-7 lead.
New Zealand came back with a try to Tim Mickelson for a 21-12 score line.
Samoa scored another two run away tries for a 33-12 win.
Meanwhile, New Zealand still leads the points table with 84 points.
Samoa after the USA 7s win is in second place with 70 points while Fiji after losing to South Africa by 12-7 in the plate-final are now in 3rd place with 68 points.
Meanwhile, it was a complete turnaround for Fiji in USA after the win in Wellington last week.
Fiji lost to Australia in the Cup quarterfinal in Las Vegas by 28-7 earlier today. Australia scored three tries in the first half and led 21-0 at half time.
Australia scored another try in the second half to extend their lead to 28-0.
Fiji only managed to score one try in the dying seconds of the game.
Fiji was barely in the game, missing tackles, dropping the ball, and kicking aimlessly which cost them dearly.
Australia 7s Coach Michael O-Connor said they had to play a smart game and not let Fiji settle in the match.
O-Connor says his players took all their chances and played a superb match of physical intensity and looked after the ball to restrict Fiji from getting possession.
He added the planning to beat Fiji started last week when they lost in the last pool game to Fiji in Wellington.
O'Connor said his players stuck to their game plan from the opening whistle and combined well today.
The Fiji 7s team will return home on Wednesday morning.
