While some flood affected people in the Western Division have complained of not receiving any food rations, people in Koronivia, Nausori who have not been affected by recent floods received food rations last week.

Fijivillage had been informed that close to 2,000 families who only had flood waters on the main road received 10 cans of tin fish, 10 kg rice, 10 kg flour, 10 kg sugar, a packet of milk, peas and cooking oil.

Most people in Koronivia were not affected by floods as these people have houses on higher ground however people in Lokia and Toga were the worst affected.

DISMAC Principal Officer Patiliai Dobui is expected to comment later on this matter.

Meanwhile, people in Nawaka, Nadi are concerned that they have not been given any rations from DISMAC following the flooding in Western Division.

Nawaka resident Navin Kumar said they need urgent assistance since they have lost everything and they have children to feed.

Kumar claimed that no government official had even visited them following the flooding.

Another Resident Ashok Kumar said that he had been living in his neighbor’s house adding only a handful of religious organizations have come forward to provide assistance, however it is not enough for them as they had lost everything.

Meanwhile, the DISMAC office reports that the number of people staying at evacuation centres after the severe flooding experienced early this month has gone down with more people moving back to their homes.

Currently there are 10 evacuation centres still in operation in the Western Division with 252 people still sheltering.
