The strong winds have caused a number of vessels docked in the Suva harbour to drift.

DISMAC confirmed that the mooring lines for some vessels snapped due to strong winds and rough seas.

One vessel which has drifted is the MV Westerland.

CEO for Bligh Water Shipping Abraham Simpson confirmed that the MV Westerland drifted from the Suva harbour towards Lami and is now grounded on a sand bank.

He said the vessel did not sustain any damages and the crew is onboard monitoring the situation.
