The owner of the vessel "Sandy" which services the Lomaiviti Group is now questioning why the Fiji Maritime and Safety Authority defied a high court order and escorted the vessel back to the Narain Jetty.
Durga Prasad, who also runs Sea View shipping Limited and is the President of the local ship owners Association said he had obtained a High Court order because it was close to a month that medical and food supplies had been waiting on his vessel.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Durga said he set sail on Tuesday as he could not wait any longer for the people on the island to suffer but was escorted back to Suva by two naval boats.
The Ministry of Works and Transport yesterday met with Prasad and FIMSA officials. The authorities maintain that all boats need to be OHS compliant before they can be declared seaworthy.
Last night the vessel Sandy set sail after FIMSA surveyors carried out another check on the boat and declared it seaworthy.
