Jasa Veremalua’s mother, Talica Salalevu could not hold back her tears while talking about the struggle and hardship that Veremalua has been through before making his family proud after getting a gold medal in Rio.

Salalevu says that she is thankful to Veremalua for giving his best despite losing his father.

She says that it was not easy raising her four children by herself but Veremalua is the son she could count on.

Salalevu adds when her husband passed away, Veremalua as the eldest of four siblings took up the fatherly role and even paid for his sister’s tuition fees to fulfill her dream to become a teacher.

She says that she always reminded Veremalua to make the right decisions and look after his siblings.

Salalevu adds that Veremalua always had a passion for sports and he was determined from a young age to join the Fiji 7s team.

She says Veremalua can expect a big feast when he gets back to the village of Korotogo, Nadroga.

Team Fiji will arrive in the country at midday Sunday.

The celebration plan for Monday August 22nd is expected to be announced tomorrow.
