Verebasaga case continues today
So far the court has heard that on the morning of January 5th 2007, Verebasaga was seen by police officers being beaten by soldiers, however nothing was noted about the incident nor was a complaint lodged as the police claimed it was not their responsibility but the charging officers.
A Pathologist report read out in court yesterday revealed that Verebasaga died due to severe injuries sustained to his vital organs.
Pathologist, Dr Abha Gupta read out the post mortem report and explained that Verebasaga suffered internal injuries to his brain, heart, lung and liver due to trauma.
Dr. Gupta also highlighted that there was no fracture on his skull or any bones but both his lungs were partially collapsed which also showed blood clots.
Earlier, a Police Officer read out the accused Vuniwawa's statement about January 5th where he claimed a directive was issued by Platoon Commander, Sergent Alipate Rabitu to go and take Verebasaga in for questioning on why he had had threatened Indian residents in the area.
In the statement read out, Vuniwawa had admitted ordering Verebasaga to go through a leopard exercise and crawl but added he did not assault Verebasaga.
