Vehicle owners, get ready to pay more when you take your vehicles for annual fitness tests to the Land Transport Authority to assist the government to fix our infrastructure.
This will become effective from 1st January next year when the new Road User Levy announced in the 2009 National Budget, is finalised by the Transport Ministry and the LTA.
Transport Ministry spokesperson, Sainiana Waqainabete said the new levy will definitely be charged from next year however the actual amount is yet to be decided.
Waqainabete said the revenue generated by this new measure will be specifically set aside for the purpose of road maintenance, upgrading and development.
Meanwhile, according to the 2009 National Budget, revenue is expected to increase to 1.522 billion dollars next year compared to 1.436 billion this year.
The civil service operating expenditure also increases next year to 1.333 billion dollars compared to 1.214 billion in 2008. However, the capital expenditure also increases from 266 million this year to 326 million dollars next year.
