Vegetable gardening is the way to go for food security.
This is the message the Agriculture Ministry is promoting as 119 primary and secondary schools participate in the Great Teitei Competition.
Acting Principal Agriculture Officer, Uraia Waibuta said each participating school is required to plant cucumber, french beans, long beans, chinese cabbage, tomatoes and watermelon adding that the winners in the primary and secondary divisions will receive one thousand dollars each.
Interim Minister Agriculture Joketani Cokanasiga earlier said if our children can grow vegetables and fruits in their schools, there is no reason why their parents cannot have their own teitei in small plots in their homes, communities and villages.
