The Interim Minister for Local Government and Urban Development has issued a directive to all Municipal Councils to ensure accountability, transparency and service delivery to ratepayers as it is the top priority.
Lekh Ram Vayeshnoi said that he has received many complaints on mayoral or other Council vehicles being misused also including other properties and resources.
Vayeshnoi said he is also looking at setting up a ministry hotline for ratepayers to make complaints on the misuse and abuse of Council vehicles.
Vayeshnoi has also pointed out that some councils have unnecessary Committee and Sub Committee Meetings which he said achieves very little thus he has directed Municipal Councils not to have more than 3 Committees. He said the only committees should be formed are Finance, Operations and Administration.
