The Vatukoula rugby side will now have a chance to challenge the Farebrother Sullivan Trophy.

This is after Vatukoula’s appeal to have the Games Committee’s decision reversed and for them to retain their four points against Nadi was successful.

Vatukoula defeated Nadi 21-20 in Round Six of the Digicel Cup with the help of France based player Seremaia Burotu.

Nadi protested that Burotu was not registered to play for Vatukoula and the games committee ruled in favor of the jet setters.

However, Fiji Rugby Unions Independent Games Tribunal reversed the decision yesterday because the FRU had failed to consult with the unions about the Rules and Regulations as done in the previous years.

Vatukoula will replace Northland in the eighth spot on the Digicel cup standings meaning they can now challenge the Farebrother as only the top eight teams are entitled to do so.

Vatukoula Coach Senirusi Seruvakula said their hard work has paid off.

Meanwhile, Nadroga will earn $5000 for finishing top of the table after the round robin games.

In the first semifinal this Saturday Namosi will play Nadroga at Lawaqa Park this Saturday and you can catch the live commentary on our sister station VITI FM.

The second Digicel Cup semifinal will be played next week between Suva and Nadi.
