Vanuatu has held off a valiant Fijian comeback to win 5-4 in extra time at Moorea's Temae beach in Tahiti in the World Cup Beach soccer qualifiers.

The match looked to be slipping away from Fiji early in the second period as Vanuatu captain Seimata Chillia added his team's third but Alvin Avinesh and Valerio Nawatu both struck in quick succession to bring Fiji back into the match.

Fiji was earlier beaten by Tahiti by 10 goals to 5 in their first game yesterday.
