Vanuatu dashed Fiji’s hopes of wrapping the OFC Under-20 championship early and kept their own hopes alive after a 2-all draw yesterday.

Though Fiji was unbeaten throughout the competition, conceding an early goal against Vanuatu certainly was not their plan coming into the encounter.

Fiji then came back strongly in the match and scored two goals through Nickel Chand and Captain Jale Dreloa with Vanuatu finding the equalizing goal in the second half.

However, Fiji is still leading the points table with 10 points with Vanuatu just two points behind.

This will put immense pressure on Fiji to win their last match against the Solomon Islands to guarantee a place in next year’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup.

On the other hand, if Vanuatu fails to beat Papua New Guinea in their last match, Fiji qualifies for the Under 20 World Cup and their last match will just be a formality.

Tomorrow Fiji will take on Solomon Islands at 7.30pm, while Vanuatu will play PNG at 5pm.
