Water points have been identified in Vanua Levu to allow islanders facing water shortages easier access.

Divisional Planning Officer northern Ratu Eliki Tikoidraubuta said the that the initial points that have been identified include Naduri for islanders off Macuata and Bua and Malau for Kia, Mali, Druadrua and Kavewa.

Ratu Eliki said the water point is where the islanders can refill their tanks instead of having to travel to Labasa town.

He said that they are identifying the most vulnerable islands and mark up points of access where they set up tanks, to fill up easily for the islanders, especially down by the sea shore.

The Government barge MV Kaiwai delivered water to the maritime islands of Yacata and Yanuca in Cakaudrove province last week.

He said that they have sent out about five 3,000 liter tanks, one 5,000 liter tank and one 10,000 liter tank to these places.
