A 42 year old van driver of Ba town will spend the next four months of his life behind bars after he could not pay a balance of $1500 of his fine.
Gilendra Kumar appeared before Magistrate Ana Rokomokoti at Navua Court last year charged with causing death by dangerous driving under the influence of liquor.
The court heard Kumar was travelling to Ba from Suva and upon reaching Nabukavesi, he fell asleep and bumped a vehicle before colliding head-on with a minibus.
The minibus driver and a passenger, Alisi Rokowailoa died in the accident. Kumar was told to pay a fine of $5,500 since November however he only managed to pay $4,000 last month.
