Utilize idle land to plant sugarcane-Commissioner Western
Joeli Cawaki stressed to the members of the council that since 1997, land has been left idle after leases expired and remained idle until today.
He highlighted that a government task force is consulting with landowners on the renewal of these leases for sugarcane farming.
Cawaki also said another Government task force will also see that villages who face water cuts and electricity problems should be able to get proper water facilities and electricity.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General and Tourism Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is expected to speak to more than 80 chiefs and Tikina representatives of the Ba Provincial council tonight.
Chairman of the Council, Ratu Meli Saukuru says he has told the members this morning that they need to hear from the Minister as 51 percent of the Tourism Industry is within the province of Ba.
The meeting will be held at 7pm at Studio Six in Suva.
