The Health Ministry is calling on people who work outside with animals to wear protective gear.

Media Liaison Officer Iliesa Tora said as clean up continues for many areas that have been badly hit by Cyclone Mick, people must take precautions as there is a likelihood of diseases spreading, and extra caution should be taken by those working with animals to prevent getting leptospirosis.

He added compounds must be cleared of debris and people must ensure that drains are cleaned so that water can be running smoothly again.

Tora earlier stated that people should handle food in a clean environment, and ensure that frozen food should not be bought unless they are new stock, that were not being sold during the cyclone. He added drinking water must be boiled to ensure no one gets sick.
