Use Ratu Sukuna As An Example
As the country celebrates Ratu Sukuna Day today, Commodore Frank Bainimarama said these principles guided Ratu Sukuna and lead Fiji on a path of mutual regard for one another and of real happiness for all, without exception.
He said Ratu Sukuna was a great leader, a highly respected chief, soldier, war hero, scholar and statesman. He emphasized on Ratu Sukuna's efforts and courage that led to the establishment of the Native Lands Trust Board.
According the Bainimarama, if one has to critically analyze the context with which the Native Land Trust Board (NLTB) was formed, it will be found that all that Ratu Sukuna really wanted was for a peaceful and united nation, a national that is considerate and holds high regard, respect and tolerance for the diverse communities that have worked hard and contributed so much to progressing Fiji economically and culturally.
The Interim Prime Minister also pointed out, that the people of Fiji may also realise and conclude that the NLTB was not to exercise its powers and act at the expense of other hard-working communities, mainly the Indian community.
