Is the convenience of plastic bags really worth the loss and demise of marine life which we all depend on?
This is the question Suva's Lord Mayor posed to the people present at the launch of Westpac's and the Department of Environment Joint Plastic Free Christmas Campaign at the MHCC yesterday.
He said people should take the initiative of caring for their environment by using re-usable bags which are more environmentally friendly.
Ratu Peni said this will also help in reducing the high cost of cleaning for municipal councils as well as beautifying Fiji.
Fiji's leading supermarkets and business houses have also joined in the campaign to create awareness for consumers to use re-usable alternatives such as enviro-bags or home-made bags to pack shopping in.
